Developed during the British Council’s Venice Fellowship Programme for the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, this installation stretches black elastic string between the columns of the British Pavilion, marking Venice’s average flood level. Suspended above the floor, it creates a new boundary while gently holding found objects collected on site. The Pavilion sits on one of Venice’s highest points and is unlikely to flood at this level, exposing uneven conditions of protection shaped by geography, infrastructure and the history of the Giardini.
